Guilt-Free Shopping

eco friendly and animal friendly

by sonia k
sonia kEveryone loves makeup! when I figured out that my favorite makeup brands were being tested on animals and weren't eco friendly I flipped; even brands like chapstick and covergirl were. They were also toxic too and bad for you. Almay makeup turned out to be a good brand, I like their products and they werent tested on animals! it might be a little hard to find but trust me walking/biking to a couple Walmarts is worth the feeling that you're helping save the earh as well as animals.

Rethink your shopping

by Denen
DenenThink before you just go out and buy something. Would an item be more eco friendly if you bought it in bulk? Will you save more fuel if you buy locally? You bet! Just don't go out and buy things that you don't need either. Oh, and DO NOT go food shopping on an empty stomach, you'll end up buying things that you wouldn't normally buy.

Reusable grocery bags

by Megan
MeganWhen you go to the grocery store or any other store, bring a reusable bag--the kind made from 100% recycled material. You might be surprised how many bags you save from being used once and thrown away!

Recycled clothes

by Nicole
NicoleYou can get really cute (and comfortable) clothes that are recycled, hand-me-downs and used clothes. And of course don't forget to use your recycled bag. My favorite outfit is a 100% recycled cotton jeans, a recycled cotton tee (that supports WWF) and my recycled plastic bottle bag. Living green is easy if you make it!

Shop Smart

generation green globe Before you go, it might be good to pump the brakes a little bit and go back to the five Rs of Chapter 1 to see if you can first reduce, reuse recycle, rethink, or refuse. If not, see if you can find a greener version of what you want to buy before pulling out your wallet.

Buy Organic Cotton

by Linda and Tosh
generation green globe In the United States alone one fourth of all pesticides used are for growing cotton. The organic cotton industry, in contrast, doesn’t use any pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals in the growing or processing of its fiber—making it our favorite clothing choice.
