Green Schools and Careers
School Transportation
by Carlisle
Organize a walk-to-school day. I walk every single day (and get really muddy rain boots while I'm at it). It's a great way to get exercise, and enjoy nature!
PAPER!
by Stephanie
It's the end of the school year and where should all that paper (worksheets, etc.)go? Instead of chunking it into a dark trash can, RECYCLE it! This can save a lot of trees.
Oh, Math...
by Paige Harmon
My math class uses MAJOR amounts of paper, so I told my teacher to try to recycle, and now our school has recycling bins in every class room, and we use both sides of the paper on EVERY printer in our school.
Solar Power
by Alice Cullen
To all the teens out there: should talk to your school and see if you can do a fundraiser to get solar panels on your school roofs!
Green Authors
by Sarah
For all of you future authors out there, ask your publishers to print your bestseller on 100% recycled paper. Also, if there's a misprint, make sure that all of the pages are recycled, not thrown in the trash!
When you have to use disposables
by Andrea Keirstead
I'm a middle-school teacher, and I try to have whole-grain cereal available in my room for starving teenagers. After seeing a kid reach into the container, lick his fingers, and reach in again, I knew I had to have separate serving dishes. Somewhere, I had read a tip from a mother of toddlers about using coffee filters as snack bowls. They work great, are inexpensive, and use a great deal less paper. It's possible to buy them unbleached, too.
Recycling
by Amy
Tell your school to recycle what's in the recycling bins, and tell friends to put only recycling in the recycling bins, since schools can't recycle if there's garbage in recycling bins. Volunteer to sort your school's recycling if you have to - that's what it took at my middle school last year. My high school is slightly better about it, but kids usually only recycle during Red Goes Green Week. *tear*
Eco School Clubs
by C.S.
At my school if you make rules, guide lines, and of course get it approved by the principal you can start your own club. See if you can start an eco-friendly club. There's already two at m y school. You might want to research ways to help the enviroment locally. Don't forget to make it interesting and fun or no one will join!

| The green world is expanding so rapidly; jump aboard and put your energy and passion for the environment into a lifelong career. Don’t think that a green career means you’ve got to be a scientist. There’s a green angle to just about anything you could want to do!

Plant trees with friends
by Garrett Rappazzo
Start a tree-planting campaign at your school! Local nurseries and the Arbor Day Foundation will donate seedlings, and you and your friends can spend a great day outside improving the landscape.
Green Up Your School
